With Dairy Babes, I wanted to craft a story that blends the familiar rhythms of rural Irish life with something darker, stranger – almost mythic. The film draws inspiration from the classic tale of Bonnie and Clyde, but places it in the heart of the Irish countryside, where isolation can give rise to both dreams and danger. At its core, Dairy Babes is a dark comedy – a story about two true lovers searching for freedom.

The fairytale element was something I wanted to weave subtly into the story – the idea of ordinary people trying to carve out their own legend, no matter how doomed or absurd their journey might be.

I wanted to explore how desperation and desire can make people rewrite their own lives into something larger – funnier, darker, and more dangerous. But beneath the heightened style, there’s still something very real about the longing for escape and the price it demands.
